Based on 7 reviews
Comparing the Valve Index and Samsung Odyssey is a tough job due to their similarities, but there are distinct differences in how they each perform.
The Valve Index has a larger field of view at 130° compared to the Samsung Odyssey's 110° field of view. This gives users with the Valve Index a more immersive experience. The resolution on both headsets is the same with 1440 × 1600 px, however, when it comes to graphics requirements, you will need an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD RX480 for the Valve Index while the Samsung Odyssey requires an Nvidia GTX1050 or higher. The operating system requirement for both headsets is Windows only. Both have room-scale tracking capabilities and 360 tracking as well which allow for greater movement within virtual reality experiences. The refresh rate on the Valve Index is 120 Hz while on the Samsung Odyssey it is 90 Hz. A higher refresh rate allows for smoother visuals in game so this can be seen as a pro of the Valve Index over the Samsung Odyssey.
In terms of personal preference when comparing these two VR headsets, I found that I preferred using the Valve Index overall due to its larger field of view and its better hardware specifications which allowed me to enjoy a smoother experience overall when playing games or exploring other virtual reality experiences compared to what I experienced with the Samsung Odyssey headset.
