A comparison of two virtual reality headsets, Microsoft HoloLens and Google Daydream View, can reveal the strengths and weaknesses of each headset.

Microsoft HoloLens offers a mixed reality experience with a 35° field of view and 1440 x 1440 pixels resolution. It is powered by the Windows operating system which is well known for its easy to use features and customizable options. One pro that comes with this headset is its room scale tracking, allowing users to move freely in a designated area while using the headset. The refresh rate offered is 90 Hz, making it easier for users to enjoy a smooth VR experience. One con could be that the field of view might not be wide enough to accommodate larger virtual environments or provide an immersive experience like other more advanced headsets do.

Google Daydream View offers smartphone-based VR with a much wider field of view at 90° and higher resolution at 2560 x 1440 pixels. The Android OS ensures an enjoyable user experience as it supports many apps as well as games available on the Play Store. Room scale tracking allows users to enjoy full body movements while being immersed in their virtual environment, just like Microsoft HoloLens does. One downside compared to Microsoft HoloLens would be the refresh rate which stands at 60 Hz instead of 90 Hz, potentially reducing some of the smoothness found when using this device.

In terms of personal preference I have had positive experiences with both devices but feel like I get slightly better performance out of Microsoft's offering due mainly due to its higher refresh rate which helps make movement less choppy within my VR environment even if it lacks the wider field view seen on Google's device.. All in all both devices are great choices for anyone looking for quality VR experiences without breaking the bank, although if you want more bang for your buck you may want to go with Microsoft HoloLens due to its higher performance specs than what Google Daydream View has currently offer
