Based on 8 reviews
When it comes to virtual reality headsets, it’s tough to beat the HTC VIVE Cosmos and HTC Vive XR Elite. They both offer immersive, high quality experiences for those who want to explore the world of virtual reality gaming. So how do they compare?
The first difference between the two is that the VIVE Cosmos is a PC VR headset while the XR Elite is a standalone VR headset. This means that with the Cosmos you will need to be connected to a computer, whereas with the XR Elite no connection is necessary as it runs on its own hardware.
In terms of field of view, both headsets offer 110° which gives an impressive level of immersion and presence in game environments. However, when it comes to resolution there is a noticeable difference with the Cosmos coming out on top at 2880 x 1700 pixels compared to 1920 x 1920 pixels for the XR Elite. The higher resolution available on the Cosmos ensures visuals are clear and crisp with no unwanted artifacts or distortions - definitely a pro in our books!
One major area where these headsets differ is room scale tracking capability; something essential for creating realistic virtual worlds. The Vive Cosmos can track up to 16’5″x16’5″ with 32 sensors while VIVE XR Elite offers 6DOF tracking up 10′×10′ — though this requires purchasing additional accessories such as controllers and base stations if you wish to take advantage of this feature. Both refresh rates come in at 90Hz giving smooth, responsive visuals no matter which headset you choose — another pro!
Finally we come down to personal opinion: which one did we prefer? We found both headsets comfortable and easy-to-use but ultimately preferred using Vive Cosmos due its superior resolution, room scale tracking capabilities (once we purchased additional accessories) and compatibility with SteamVR games. In addition being able connect wirelessly without any extra setup was also convenient making overall experience far more enjoyable than having wires dangling around us like tentacles!
Overall we think both headsets provide excellent value for money depending on your requirements but if you are looking for superior image quality along enhanced motion tracking then Vive cosmos might be better suited choice.
