The Samsung Gear VR and the PlayStation VR2 are both excellent virtual reality headsets with distinct strengths and weaknesses.

For starters, the Samsung Gear VR has a field of view of 101° which is slightly less than that of the PlayStation VR2, which has a 110° field of view. The resolution for the Gear VR is also slightly lower than that of the PlayStation headset, coming in at 2560 x 1440 px compared to 2000 x 2040 px on the Sony device. However, while the PSVR has higher resolution visuals, it does not have room scale tracking or 360 degree tracking capabilities like the Gear VR does. This could be considered a pro or a con depending on your needs as some people may prefer more immersive features while others might not need this feature at all.

When it comes to refresh rate, however, there is no contest: Sony’s PlayStation headset offers an impressive 120 Hz refresh rate compared to just 60 Hz on Samsung’s headset. This means that users can enjoy smoother and more realistic visuals when using Sony’s product. It should be noted however that this requires powerful hardware to achieve and so most users won't benefit from this unless they own a high-end gaming PC or console.

In my opinion, both headsets offer great experiences with each having their own pros and cons depending on your needs. If you're looking for an immersive experience with motion tracking then I'd recommend going for Samsung's Gear VR as it offers these features along with decent visuals at an affordable price point. On the other hand if you're looking for crisp visuals without any bells and whistles then Sony's PSVR2 would be my pick as it offers superior visuals thanks to its higher refresh rate along with full compatibility with multiple devices (such as gaming consoles). Ultimately though, it really depends on your budget and what kind of experience you're looking for in a virtual reality headset - either one will serve you well!
